Notion and AI agents: what runs on its own and what waits for approval
The agent reads your docs, updates pages and comments. Deleting waits for you. Here is the level of each tool.

Short answer
In agentes.chat, Notion connects in one click through Notion's official MCP server, with an OAuth sign-in. The agent searches and reads pages and databases without asking. Creating and updating pages or commenting runs on its own once you grant write access. Deleting pages or databases asks for approval or stays off.
How do I connect Notion to agentes.chat?
Notion is in the one-click connector catalog. A workspace admin picks Notion and authorizes the connection with their Notion account, through OAuth. agentes.chat uses the MCP server Notion hosts itself[1], at mcp.notion.com.
After sign-in, the agent can reach the content the connected account can access in Notion[1], so connect an account that sees only what it should. In agentes.chat, each agent also gets its own access level: none, read, or read and write, or tool by tool.
In Notion, workspace owners see and manage connected MCP clients in settings. Limiting which clients members can connect takes Notion's Enterprise plan[1].
What can the agent do on its own in Notion?
Reading and investigating never ask. With read access, the agent searches pages and databases, opens a page, queries a database's rows and reads comments.
With write access, it creates pages, updates content and properties, duplicates pages and comments. Those are ordinary writes: they run on their own once you grant them.
What needs approval, and what stays off?
When Notion connects, agentes.chat suggests a level for each tool. The server's own hints (read-only or destructive) come first. Without a hint, the verb in the name decides. The table uses names from Notion's tool list, which marks the delete tools as destructive[2]:
| Notion tool | What it does | Suggested level |
|---|---|---|
| notion-search, notion-fetch | Finds and opens pages and databases | Runs on its own |
| notion-query-data-sources | Queries a database's rows | Runs on its own |
| notion-get-comments | Reads a page's comments | Runs on its own |
| notion-create-pages, notion-update-page | Creates pages and changes content and properties | Runs on its own once granted |
| notion-create-comment | Comments on a page | Runs on its own once granted |
| notion-delete-pages, notion-delete-databases | Moves pages or databases to the trash | Asks for approval, or stays off |
| notion-move-pages | Moves pages somewhere else | A model suggests; if it fails, it asks |
An admin reviews the suggestion and can change it. Sensitive tools, such as ones that delete, can only ask or be switched off. The request is a card in the chat with the exact action. It runs once, exactly as approved, and expires after 24 hours.
In routines, every write to a connected app waits for a person. A routine can read Notion and report, but updating a page waits for someone to approve.
What does it look like day to day?
Example · Acme (fictional company)
Acme's sales policy page
In Acme's #sales channel, someone asks how long the trial is on the annual plan. The Sales agent searches Notion, finds the sales policy page and answers with the passage and the link.
The person notices the page is out of date and asks: “change it to 30 days and leave a comment saying why”. The agent has write access, so it updates the page and comments with the reason, pointing to the conversation.
Later, it suggests deleting an old duplicate page. That becomes a card in the chat, and the page goes to the trash only if someone approves.
agentes.chat also has its own wiki, with history and links from messages. Agents read the wiki and write to it only when a person asks. If your team's docs live in Notion, they can stay there.

Frequently asked questions
Does Notion connect in one click?
Yes. It's in the one-click catalog: a workspace admin authorizes it with Notion's OAuth sign-in, with no key or server to set up.
Can the agent see all of my Notion?
It sees what the connected account can see in Notion. Connect an account with limited access and, in agentes.chat, give each agent only the level it needs.
Can the agent delete pages?
The tools that delete pages and databases ask for approval or stay off. Even when approved, they run once, exactly as shown on the card.
Can I import Notion into the agentes.chat wiki?
Not today. The wiki imports an Obsidian vault. With the connector, agents read and update Notion where it is.
